Meet Our Pastor

Meet the pastor of Cedar Grove MBC, David Smith.  David has been with Cedar Grove since October 2022 and his calling to our church was as he puts it "most definitely a God thing".  Ask him to tell you the story and he will be glad to share it with you.

David is originally from Gate City, VA, but currently resides in Kingsport, TN with his wife Amy and their two children, Madeline (Maddie) and Alex.

David grew up in church, having a dad and grandfather who were both preachers.  He had very Godly parents and always understood the importance of having Christ in his life.  At the age of 25, David gave his heart to God and accepted Jesus as his Savior. While attending church with his wife (he was 19 at the time), he involved himself in the youth program at First Baptist Church of Gate City. It was at FBCGC that he met his mentor, Jeff Deboard.  Through mission trips and camps, he learned from Jeff and learned how to serve as an assistant pastor.  At a camp in Georgia, he began to feel God speaking to him.  He started to write down everything and continued to serve where he was.  Months later, he realized that God was calling him to preach and calling him to a greater purpose.

After some experience, David asked his grandfather if he could preach at his church during revival.  This was the night he knew for sure that God was calling him to preach.  From there, he led youth revival at Cowan's Branch Church in Yuma, Va, filled in as a guest preacher whenever and wherever he could, and continued to share the gospel.

The past six years of David's life have been building the youth program at Uplift Church in Weber City, Va.  He became the first youth minister to serve at Uplift and created a program that is still going strong today.

Having served 19 years working with youth and the youth ministry, God continually prepared David for what He has in store for the future.  David loves God and is so very thankful for everything that he has blessed him with.  He is very excited to see what this next chapter holds and is looking forward to the future as the pastor of Cedar Grove MBC.
